Hash Calculator
Hash Calculator computes Keccak-256, SHA3-256, SHA-256, SHA-512, RIPEMD-160 and Bitcoin Hash160 from text or hex locally. Distinguishes Keccak from SHA3.
Calculations and checks on this page run in your browser. Private keys and seed phrases are never uploaded to the server.
About this tool
Hash Calculator computes several cryptographic digests locally. In blockchain work, Keccak-256 underpins addresses and selectors; Bitcoin P2PKH/P2WPKH uses HASH160(SHA256(pubkey)).
Ethereum Keccak-256 and NIST SHA3-256 use different padding, so identical inputs diverge—this page lists both for comparison.
Messages can be UTF-8 text or hex bytes; multi-algorithm outputs update as you type.
How to use
- Choose text or hex input mode.
- Enter the message to hash.
- Review digests for each algorithm.
- Copy the row you need.
FAQ
What is the difference between Keccak-256 and SHA3-256?
Ethereum keeps pre-NIST Keccak parameters; standard SHA3-256 changed padding. Solidity “sha3” usually means Keccak-256.
What is Bitcoin Hash160?
RIPEMD160(SHA256(x)), 20 bytes—used before encoding legacy and SegWit pubkey hashes.
Can a hash be reversed to recover the original?
Ideally one-way. Low-entropy or short inputs may still fall to dictionary or brute force; do not treat a bare hash as encryption.
Should I use text or hex input for hashing?
Text encodes as UTF-8 bytes; hex parses two chars per byte. Example: text "ab" is two bytes; hex 0xab is one.
